On January 7 I posted my view on the importance of educating a horse to follow the feel of the inside rein with its thoughts when teaching it to turn or circle.
In essence, the emotional anxiety at the beginning determined the horse’s thoughts to run, pull away, call out, try going the other way, etc. It is only by changing the emotions that the horse was able to listen and follow a feel.
I get pleasure and I make a living working with horses and horse people, but my aim is not to use horses as a means towards self-improvement. If I need fixing, I have the help of a wonderful wife and wonderful friends for that.
I have recently been in discussion with somebody who asked me how to marry the concept of using the outside rein when neck reining a horse with my opposition to using the outside rein in two-handed riding.
Every horse should be a fun riding horse before they are an Olympic dressage horse or a pony club games pony. Be brave. Try things with your horse that nobody ever thought of trying.
