One of the things I have heard coming from the mouths of other trainers, instructors, and clinicians is, “I learned it from the horse,” or “Everything I know was taught to me by the horse.”
In my view, we should compete only when we feel we have had a good day because we spent it with our horse, even if we came last. I suspect competition has ruined more horses and more human/horse relationships than most of us want to admit.
When I was a young fellow I would try to go to jumping clinics, eventing clinics, and dressage clinics, but it never occurred to me to enrol in a horsemanship clinic.
